Felix Heinzer

: W. John Bennett Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Institute and the Centre for Medieval Studies

Felix Heinzer, who will be with us for the spring term, studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Universities of Rome (Gregoriana), Lyon, Chur, Fribourg (Switzerland) and Bonn. He received his Doctoral degree from Fribourg (Switzerland) with a thesis on the Christology of Maximus Confessor in 1979. After six years as a cataloguer of medieval manuscripts at Karlsruhe (Badische Landesbibliothek) from 1981 to 1986 he was promoted to the post of Head of the Manuscripts Department at Stuttgart Wurttemberg State Library until 2005, when - after his Habilitation at the University of Basel on monastic book culture and monastic reform ideas in medieval south-west Germany in 2001 - he was appointed Professor of Medieval Latin at the University of Freiburg (Germany).
